A design token is a named design value, such as a color, spacing or radius, used in code and design files instead of a raw number.
Instead of writing a hex value in a hundred places you name it once, for example primary, and reference it everywhere. Change the token and every screen updates together. Tokens are usually layered: primitive, semantic and component.
